Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshop

Thanks to those who attended Tuesday's RMP Scholarship and Financial Aid Workshop. The mission of the evening was to promote achievement and preparation for global competitiveness amongst the scholars at Rocky Mount Prep.
Ms. Anderson, the counselor for grades 11 and 12 at RMP for 12 years, walked attendees step-by-step through preparing for scholarships and financial aid so when scholars become seniors, they are well prepared for their college future. Ms. Anderson says her position as a counselor has been rewarding for her and the high school scholars. She works diligently to prepare scholars for success as they transition from high school to college. Ms. Anderson leaves no stone unturned when it comes to giving the scholars all they need to become successful in this process. She cannot stress enough how important it is for scholars to complete the Residency Determination Service (RDS) early on.

Ms. Teresa Adams, an outreach specialist for TRIO and EOC, was the guest speaker at Tuesday's event. Ms. Adams is new to the Rocky Mount area and loves the work she is doing to assist college-bound students in realizing their potential. The Federal TRIO programs serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.

In addition to helping scholars understand the financial aid and scholarship components, TRIO can help with research, career assessments, FAFSA, and financial literacy. The other thing that TRIO does is to assist in completing the scholar’s image by administering personality assessments like True Colors and Meyers Briggs. Personality assessments can give review boards, colleges, and universities an idea about young scholars, such as their strengths and weaknesses regarding communication. The assessments can also give scholars tips to improve their communication and identify other areas for improvement.
Scholars are offered the scholarship and financial aid workshop twice yearly (fall and spring). We hope you'll make plans to join us the next time we host this event!
